"Everyone can succeed!"
I am a Singaporean who has lived, studied, and worked in the US since 2000. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in History from Santa Clara University in 2012, and my Master's in Teaching degree from Northwest University in 2019. Before I earned my MIT, I worked as both a substitute teacher and an enrichment teacher with public and private school students with a wide range of skills, personalities, and needs. This includes students with developmental or learning difficulties, students with socio-emotional difficulties, and students learning English as a new language. I have worked in education since 2012, in both public and private schools as well as tuition centres. My Master's endorsement is in Primary (Gr 1-6) education, so I can teach Primary English, Maths, Science, and Social Studies. I have also worked Secondary (Gr 7-12) level students on English & History subjects such as AP Literature, AP World History, SAT English, and AP Language & Composition. Teaching students is my passion. The moment a student has an "Aha!" moment is the most rewarding part of the process. My teaching style is to tailor the strategies, materials, and assignments to meet the student's specific needs and goals as well as to develop a growth mindset in them. When students see that they are making progress towards a goal, they gain confidence, which in turn motivates them to make more progress.
I have helped a Grade 7 student rekindle his love of reading and improved his English grades from F's to A's. Two of my SAT English students have achieved high scores to get into Seattle University and Northeastern University. I have taught the same Korean student for 4 years. In his first year with me, his grades were close to failing and his confidence was non-existent. Since then, his English grades have consistently been A's and he is now one of the best public speakers in his class.
I graduated from Santa Clara University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in History. The focus of my thesis was on the Japanese social recovery and transformation after World War 2. During my time, I presented papers at the National History Honors conference in Florida and had my thesis paper published in a regional academic magazine. I completed my Master's in Teaching degree at Northwest University in 2019. My endorsement was in Primary education. I completed my student teacher training at Horace Mann Elementary School in Redmond, WA.
